In this blog we'll tell you why if you do one thing this Autumn, it has to be service your heat pump!

Autumn in the UK is arguably the best season. We love it for many reasons...the leaves turning bright orange and yellow, the return to school for the small people in our lives and who doesn't love a cosy night in? There's often a lot to do around the house at this time of year and one job that we encourage you to prioritise is servicing your heat pump.

Us brits tend to make a bit of a thing about putting the heating on at home. Some families have a specific date that must be reached before anyone can touch the thermostat. Others insist the temperatures reach a certain degree before they'll admit it's getting nippy enough for a blast of the heating. One thing we all seem to agree on is that we all want reliable heating and hot water when the temperatures start to drop. So, if you haven't had our annual heat pump service yet, here are 5 reasons to get your heat pump serviced before winter arrives.

1. Your local engineers are about to get a lot busier

Heat pumps are relatively new to the UK. We've encountered many installers new to the game, who have learnt the basics, but are not experienced enough to offer specialist heat pump services or heat pump maintenance. Lots of the larger installer companies are growing at pace and there is a well reported shortage of engineers in the UK. This means waiting until the midst of winter for your service isn't a good idea. Both national and local heat pump engineers will have their hands much fuller in the winter motnhs. The first frosts or cold snaps often mean the phone is ringing with emergency call outs, so finding a slot for a service may be trickier. During his time as an engineer over the last 16 years, Chris Morris our company director, has seen customers end up on long waiting lists during the peak winter months due to engineer availibility.

2. Avoid Breakdowns

Who doesn't love a crisp, cold frosty winter morning. Erm, apart from the heat pump owner with no heating that is... Heat pumps are fantastic, reliable heating solutions, but they need looking after. Like a boiler your heat pump needs an annual service. If it hasn't had the regular TLC it needs, you might face a heat pump break down this winter. This is often avoidable if small issues are dealt with early during the routine heat pump service. If you have a heat pump fault, don't ignore it. Book your annual service or contact a heat pump expert to conduct diagnostics and heat pump fault finding effectively.

3. Extend the life of your heat pump

Just like us mere mortals, heat pumps need care and attention to ensure longevity. Getting your annual heat pump service is not a 'nice to have' it's essential. Spending a modest amount now, can save you a fortune from costly heat pump replacement parts later on. If you live in Dorset, Hampshire or Wiltshire and you need a heat pump service we can help.

4. You want your heat pump efficiency to be high

Most heat pumps have to work harder in the winter months. Even if you use your heat pump for cooling in the summer, the winter frosts and low temperatures mean some heavy lifting. This means you do not want your heat pump to run inefficiently over winter. Part of the appeal of a heat pump is often cost saving, but if your heat pump is not serviced you may well find your energy bills going in the wrong direction. Assessing what's behind your heat pump running inefficiently, you'll most likely need an expert. There are some things you can check yourself (see our blog post on this very topic), but there's no avoiding it, the best way to prevent this at all is regular servicing.

5. You can look forward to those frosty mornings

You can't put a price on peace of mind. We think glorious frosty mornings are pretty priceless too. Don't have the fear of a heat pump failure looming over you this winter. Book a service for peace of mind and make sure you're ready to enjoy the colder months in your warm home.
